5th October 2015: דרורה חבקין-קח את ליבי

Language – Hebrew

Translation – דרורה חבקין = Drora Havkin (artist), קח את ל יבי = Take heart, or possibly Take my heart (song title)

Interesting article here about Ariel Nishri, the son of Drora Havkin, and how Jewish / Arab musical collaborations are quite a common thing: http://www.israel21c.org/making-peace-through-jewish-and-arab-musical-roots/

22nd September 2015: Neil Sedaka – Oh, Carol!

Language – Hebrew

Neil Sedaka recorded many of his records in Italian, as he was very popular in Italy.  I, however, rather like this Hebrew version of ‘Oh, Carol!’ recorded in RCA’s Israeli studios in 1966.

17th February 2015: Ofra Haza – Im Nin’Alu

Language – Hebrew

Translation – If the doors are locked / If the gates are closed

I remember this record coming out when I was young.  The poppier / remixed version, anyway, which was an exciting and surprising hit in the UK.  I really like this more stripped down version. Interestingly, this is apparently the first time it was sung on TV in Israel despite being a very popular poem / song that is often sung at weddings.

Im nin’alu daltei n’divim daltei marom lo nin’alu – Even if the gates of the rich are closed, the gates of heaven will never be closed.
