5th March 2015: Nena – 99 Luftballons (German Week – Day 3)

Language – German

Translation – 99 balloons (I suppose they would have to have to be ‘rote’ to be red balloons, but hey, what do I know…)

Imagine if a nuclear apocalypse was started just by a boy letting loose a load of balloons?  Well, Nena (and her band) beat you to it.  This song is the sound of my youth.

Interestingly, while this original German version got to number 1 in the music charts of most European countries, it only got to 23 in Poland.
