2nd January 2015: Françoise Hardy – La maison ou j’ai grandi

Language – French

Translation – The house where I grew up

I love Françoise Hardy.  I am instantly transported to 1960s Paris when listening to her music, and her seemingly effortless cool is totally transfixing.  This song, ‘La maison ou j’ai grandi’, is a rather melancholic look at memory and the possible error in returning to a place you once felt happy. I remember going to Paris in the 1990s and spending a disproportionate amount of time looking at CDs in FNAC, a chain store that was a big help in my discovery of French musical artists.  I have since bought Françoise Hardy albums elsewhere, and this track is a personal favourite.
